Thoughts

Debbie and I have known Dom for nearly 40 years. Dom did the same degree as me at Kingston and we were both part of the Rookwood Four living in New Malden in the 2nd and 3rd year at Poly with Paul and Phil. Rookwood was a student house with some resemblance to the Young Ones. It came with mould and a dodgy gas oven that exploded once. Dom was lucky as he had Paul to help with the cooking and Phil and I shared. Dom was I would say the most naturally academically gifted of the four of us almost frustratingly so. It did not seem to take much effort for him. We all got night shift roles at the new Tesco’s that was opening up. Rookwood was great for parties and at occasionally a “band” played badly. Our neighbours were warned and tolerant. Paul and Dom shared initially but decided to lose our “snooker room” so everyone got a space. Dom seemed to have a love for “Woolies” - helped keep them afloat for a little longer. On my stag do can always remember Dom towards the end of the evening walking straight into a glass door at the Chinese near New Malden station. Dom was an usher at our Wedding at Edge Hill, Wimbledon and has been a constant in our life including baptisms and confirmations of our three children as well as Debbie’s Mum’s funeral. Neither of us moved too far from Kingston and certainly tried to see him as much as possible for his birthday gatherings and occasional curry/ pizza. Dom was a loyal, honest and supportive great friend. He had a dry sense of humour with a wry smile. Dom had a broad “mix” of musical tastes but enjoyed seeing Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi and I think he also saw Rolling Stones together too. He will leave a hole for all of us but his spirit I am sure will be with us. Sleep well Dom, love Rob, Debbie, Alex, Jonny and Sophie xxx
